PORT CLINTON — Boats. Music. Food Trucks. Boating & Fishing Seminars. Wine tasting. Craft beers. And just plain fun! That’s what’s in store for boaters when the 2020 edition of the Progressive Catawba Island Boat Show opens for 3 days, April 24 -26.

“This all-outdoor event is 16 years old but we’re redesigning it to be a new experience this year,” says Michele Burke, president of the Lake Erie Marine Trades Association. “For the first time, we will feature select food trucks, expert seminars on boating topics, fishing clinics, live entertainment and more. And, of course, we’ll have over 100 boats dockside and ready for boarding.”

The show is held at the prestigious Catawba Island Club. Over the years this event has come to symbolize the opening of Lake Erie’s boating season. The fleet of power and sailboats are mostly displayed in-the-water and will range from small center consoles to million-dollar motor yachts.

In addition to the boats, there will be exhibits of boating accessories, equipment, marinas, services and information that all surround the picturesque marina basin in dozens of individual tents. It all combines to give show visitors a unique experience.

“We really think of it as a spring boating party as much as a show of latest models,” adds Burke. “It’s also unique in that it’s the only time each year CIC is open to the public. There’s no charge for admission or parking, the setting is beautiful and the atmosphere is boating casual.”

A key advantage of this show is visitors and prospective boat buyers will see many new 2020 boat models that have been arriving at dealerships since the Cleveland Boat Show last January or were simply too big to truck to that indoor show. Add the ability to show off select pre-owned boats and the in-water format that allows for sea trials for qualified prospective buyers, and this show is a complete expo.

Daily live music on the Entertainment Deck overlooking the marina along with special events including wine tasting opportunities and craft beer samplings add to the fun atmosphere of the show.

And speaking of sampling, if finding out what it’s like to go sailing is your interest, Harbor North of Huron will be featuring its special “Discover Lake Erie Sailing” program daily during the show. It’s a unique hands-on opportunity for anyone who has never sailed before to find out what it’s really like. Under the coaching of a licensed captain, everyone on board will take a stand at the helm for a true hands-on experience.

Perhaps the best feature of the CIC show is the dealers’ ability to sea trial virtually every boat. That’s unlike most other in-water shows where many of the boats are pinned in and can’t get be run. The boats displayed will range widely in size and design from 10-foot inflatables to 55-foot-plus motor yachts.

The Catawba Island Club is located on the northwest side of the Catawba peninsula, off Northwest Catawba Road. Show hours for 2020 will be: Friday, 12 Noon to 6 PM; Saturday, 10 AM to 6 PM; Sunday, 11AM to 5 PM. Admission and parking are all free. For all the details, go to:
